This aromatic curry is inspired by the classic fish curry of Goa, which was in turn inspired by the Portuguese. Our flavour pots offer a tangy-ness with flavours of tomato, ginger, garlic, chilli and clove. A garnish of mustard seeds and a touch of star anise finish the dish and it’s all married together by a creamy coconut milk. Just close your eyes and pretend you’re on the warm beaches of Goa!

  1. 1 Cook the rice according to pack instructions. Meanwhile start the curry.
  2. 2 Heat a little oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and fry for 2 mins. Add the tomatoes and the Goan Paste. Stir for 2-3 mins to soften the onion and tomatoes. If you're making this with chicken, add it to the pan now and stir-fry for 3-4 mins, then continue with step 3.
  3. 3 Add the Coconut Paste and the coconut milk to the pan and gently bring to the boil. Then turn down the heat and simmer for about 5-7 mins until the sauce has thickened slightly. Stir in the Spice Blend and then carefully add the cod (if using). Let the curry simmer for 3-4 mins, or until everything is cooked through.
  4. 4 Serve the rice in bowls and ladle the Goan curry over the top with a sprinkle of coriander and a squeeze of lime juice (if using). Tip: Serve with plain yoghurt alongside for those who might find the curry spicy!
