Our latest dish is a delicate curry featuring the classic spices grown in Kerala - mustard seeds, turmeric and warm spices like cinnamon and clove. Seafood is inabundance off the coconut-tree lined coast so we're going with king prawns. Kerala’s rich trading heritage means that fusion and influences from other culturescan often be seen in their modern day dishes, which is why you'll see courgette in our version. To be truly authentic, serve your curry and rice on a banana leaf!

Our 20 minute recipe

  • 1.

    Fry the paste

Cook the rice according to pack instructions, then keep warm.

Heat a little oil in a large pan over medium high heat and then fry the onion for 5 mins.

Add the KERALAN PASTE and a splash of water and fry for 2 mins.

  • 2.

    Add the veg

Add the courgette slices and the GARLIC PASTE and cook for 2 mins.

  • 3.

    Make the sauce

Pour in the coconut milk and gently bring it to the boil. Then reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for 5 mins.

Add the prawns and cook for 2 mins (if they're cooked) or 3-4 mins, if raw.

  • 4.

    Finishing touches

Stir through the SOUTH INDIAN GARNISH and cook for 2 more mins or until the prawns are cooked (they should be firm and opaque in the middle).

  • 5.

    Serve!

Serve the rice in bowls with the Keralan curry over the top.

10 out of 10 so scrumptious

Lovely and flavoursome

Sureshni - Oct 21, 2019

Really good - had it with sour dough bread instead of rice

Nadina - Oct 14, 2019

Absolutely delicious!

Gemma - Sep 26, 2019

Delish and not too hot for the children.

Billal - Sep 16, 2019

Added cherry tomatoes, green beans and peppers to this dish just to add some more variety. Only used 180g of prawns and 1 courgette though. I thought this dish was lovely, which I wasn’t expecting (this is my first review here). If you’re worried about it being too watery, just let it evaporate out — although I didn’t personally think it was watery.

Alex - Sep 11, 2019

Could maybe have a bit more flavour

Clare - Sep 02, 2019

I cooked this tonight with chicken instead, it was absolutely delicious. I added courgette, red onion and red pepper with coconut milk mmmm so good

Natasha - Sep 02, 2019

Flavour was very nice however the dish was extremely oily. All in all I probably will not order this dish again.

Fran - Aug 31, 2019

Too hot

Sandra - Aug 28, 2019

Didn't enjoy at all????????

David - Aug 26, 2019

Not impressed with this at all. It wasn’t spicy, and I had even add some fresh chilli to the curry. Lacked flavour for me. I’ve had better currie from simply cook.

Kim - Aug 25, 2019

Lovely

Simon - Aug 22, 2019

Terrific ????

Shayanti - Jul 14, 2019

Not a very nice dish.

Alan - Jul 12, 2019

Loved it

Djihane - Jul 06, 2019

Was a little more watery than I expected but good taste. Adjusted recipe the second time I made it with extra veg and worked well.

Valerie - Jun 27, 2019

Oh didn’t like this at all. Tasteless & watery. Sadly a waste of my lovely prawns!

Angela - Jun 19, 2019

Made this with chicken thighs as kids don’t like prawns - was just as good!

Darron - Jun 18, 2019

Tasty but a bit sweet, so added some fresh lime and coriander. Top tip is keep fresh limes and lemons about as will make any dish zip!

Janina - Jun 15, 2019

The best curry so far! Multi-layered flavour, delicious with fish or prawns.

Katie - Jun 11, 2019

Very tasty. Would recommend

Kassiopeia - Jun 08, 2019

Claire - May 27, 2019

Tasty

Alan - May 13, 2019

Lovely curry just wondered instead of light coconut milk would the normal one make sauce thicker

Gill - Apr 30, 2019

We had this with tenderstem broccoli instead of courgette and added baby tomatoes. It was delicious.

Teresa - Apr 27, 2019

This was another recipe sent without me saying I’d have it. My husband hates prawns so I made it with white fish. I also added cherry tomatoes, peppers, sugar snap peas, peas and sweetcorn. It was delicious

David - Apr 23, 2019

Nice, boys liked it, wasn’t as strongly flavoured as I expected whilst cooking it!
