With so many styles of curry in the hawker markets in Bali, Indonesia it was hard to select just one to try, so we’ve taken inspiration from a variety of them. You can use whole drumsticks and thighs in this, as is done authentically. It’s an aromatic curry with coconut, coriander and kaffir lime leaves, the prized signature aromatic ingredient in Indonesian dishes!

We’ve sourced and blended all of the unique flavour ingredients to make our authentic Balinese Chicken. We bring these all together in a recipe kit, which consists of 3 flavour pots; a Garlic Coconut Paste pot, a Balinese Paste pot and a Balinese Garnish pot. Simply follow our recipe, adding a few items from your fridge, to cook this delicious Balinese Chicken in just 20 minutes.

Your shopping list:

boneless chicken thighs
coconut milk
green beans
cashew nuts(optional)
parathas/naan breads (or 240g rice)(optional)

Our 20 minute recipe

  • 1.

    Get the curry started

    Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the chicken and the onion for 3-5 mins.

    Add the GARLIC COCONUT PASTE and stir quickly for 1 min.

  • 2.

    Add the Balinese flavours

    Add the BALINESE PASTE, mix well and then let it cook for 3 mins.

    Add the green beans to the pan (if using).

  • 3.

    Let is simmer

    Mix in the coconut milk and the BALINESE GARNISH, gently boil then reduce the heat and cook for 10 mins.

    Meanwhile, heat the paratha/naan breads (or rice) as per pack instructions, and keep warm.

  • 4.


    When the chicken is cooked through, garnish the curry with chopped cashew nuts and serve.

Make with rice rather than naan for a more authentic Indonesian experience. Tastes good and is easy to make, but needed cornflour to thicken the sauce even though I used less coconut milk. And some other texture than the cashews and green beans and chicken would have completed it.

Absolutely loved this dish but have 1 bad review on it on the card it did not specify whether you cook green beans or not I chose not to as I thought it would say to do so and when eating they needed to be cooked before hand but all in all great dish would defo get it again

I used an alternative style to assemble this, I made home made pork meatballs with the two stocks that came with, cooked the meatballs then adding the coconut milk and spinach with the sprinkles that came with to finish. My alternate recipe.

Didn't look as creamy as the picture. Was very watery. We used coconut milk as stated, but wondered whether it should have been tinned coconut milk? Was spicy,but was OK to eat, which is good as I don't like hot food. Tasted good.
