Our 25 minute recipe

  • 1.

    Marinate the pork

    Preheat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.

Use a knife to make 4 or 5 shallow slashes along the pork fillet to help it cook evenly.

Mix the HOI SIN SAUCE and the BLACK BEAN PASTE together in a bowl and marinate the pork in the mixture, getting it right into the cuts, then put on a tray and cook in the oven for 20 mins.

  • 2.

    Meanwhile, make some rice

Cook the rice as per packet instructions.

  • 3.

    Fry the veg

About 5 mins before the rice and pork are ready, heat a little oil in a frying pan over medium heat and fry the garlic (if having) for 30 secs.

Add most of the spring onions (keep some back for garnish) and the pak choi and stir fry for 3-4 mins.

Take the pan off the heat and stir through the SOY & RED MISO SAUCE.

  • 4.

    Serve!

Slice the pork into wide slices, then serve with the rice and veg and sprinkle with some spring onions.

Char Siu BBQ Pork Reviews

BASED ON 2141 reviews

Lucy - Jun 16, 2019

Was nice but not a favourite. The smell of the miso paste was abit off putting but it tasted better than it smelt

Jon - Jun 13, 2019

I really enjoyed the twist in this recipe, and I would never have thought of it, but I will be doing it again...

Amanda - Jun 12, 2019

Lacking a sauce

Heather - Jun 11, 2019

Yum....... that is all

Tracy - Jun 11, 2019

So yummy

Zoe - Jun 10, 2019

Enjoyed it the first time, but found it a bit bland the second time.

Samantha - Jun 09, 2019

Only one I've not liked. Needs some sauce, lack of flavour

steven - Jun 09, 2019

Delish

Ryan - Jun 08, 2019

The marinated pork is nice, but no sauce, so the rice is plain and dry. This is the first recipe I wouldn't order again.

Sam - Jun 07, 2019

Wasn't quite what we were expecting. The instructions may need tweaking, the 'marinade' for the pork didn't really work properly and ended up with huge chunks of it once the pork had cooked. Wasn't horrible at all, but wasn't for us.

Amanda - Jun 04, 2019

The miso dressing for the pak choi is not to our taste but love the rest of this recipe. Tenderloin work best.

Angela - Jun 04, 2019

V nice

Sue - Jun 03, 2019

We enjoyed this, but the pork could have done with more flavour, I marinated it as directed, however I felt it could have done with something a bit more. We enjoyed the pak choi

Stuart - Jun 03, 2019

Rather bland, wouldn't cook again. Used pork tenderloin but cooking time in recipe much shorter than on the packet so rather confusing.

Lee - Jun 02, 2019

Add soy sauce to oak Choi as needed something extra

Kev - Jun 02, 2019

Had to improvise by frying pork fillet medallions as I couldn't find a whole fillet in the shops. Pak choi was a new vegetable for us, went down a treat.

Laura - Jun 01, 2019

The meat was really tasty but the veg didn’t have much flavour, if I did it again I would add more Mizo flavouring! Quick and easy to make!

Georgie - May 31, 2019

Super yummy. Added 3 chillis with the garlic for a bit of kick too. And also did with pork medallions as couldn’t find the pork loin

Melanie - May 31, 2019

Delicious! I love fruity salads, but there was far too much salad and pomegranate for 2 people! I would suggest using half the amount.

Simon - May 31, 2019

Really great flavour

Alex - May 30, 2019

Rice was too plain

Sarah - May 29, 2019

I enjoyed this, I added ginger and garlic to my Pak Choi and used a lime and coriander rice.

Laurie - May 23, 2019

Not so keen on this one, the pork was nice but the sauce on the pac Choi wasn’t great and was very plain with just basmati rice

Joanne - May 19, 2019

Very tasty, will be ordering again

Sarah - May 19, 2019

This was ok. Basically black bean mixed with hoisin sauce. Definitely not char Sui.

Helen - May 15, 2019

One of our favourites!!

Philip - May 15, 2019

Delicious! Loads of flavour which all complimented each other. Easy to make, will definitely order again, will just add a little more Pak Choi next tine

Karen - May 14, 2019

Boring! Much rather have the Vietnamese pork with virtually same ingredients

Deborah - May 14, 2019

Loved the meat but the vegetables didn’t have much flavour

Hayley - May 14, 2019

Didn't really taste like bbq, more Chinese tasting.

Charlotte - May 13, 2019

Too dry, not enough sauce. Just not that enjoyable I’m afraid.

Laurence - May 09, 2019

The recipe would have been better with a 30min marinade time and slow cooked in the oven. The best bits of pork were the ones which had time to rest after the oven. The veg however were amazing.

Catherine - May 08, 2019

Very easy to make. Nice flavour but I wouldn't describe it as Char Siu. Added mushrooms to the stir fry veg which worked well.

Joanna - May 06, 2019

Added more miso sauce to japanese udu noodles as avoiding rice with baby corn and mangetout as well as spring onions and pak choi. Very good and not too salty at all for us.

Robert - May 04, 2019

Pork delicious. The rest, meh

Pollyanna - May 02, 2019

Pork tasted great but the miso was awful. The whole family agreed the meat was the best bit (and the only bit they ate)

Carrie - May 02, 2019

Too salty

Ana Maria - Apr 30, 2019

Good recipe. My bf loved it too. I did the vegetarian option (hot pot) with tofu and aubergines. Really nice! It might taste salty but if you mix it with rice it balances the saltiness.

Louise - Apr 30, 2019

Found the black bean too salty and overpowering. Loved the miso though - I added mange tout and baby corn to up the veggies. Would try again but leave the black bean out

Lois - Apr 30, 2019

Easy dish to prepare, really liked the marinade on the meat, possibly needed some sauce.

Jo - Apr 28, 2019

Yummy will do this again

Eve - Apr 28, 2019

After reading the reviews we decided to make our own minds up give this a try as we love Char Sui Pork. We didn’t find this at all dry - perhaps that’s because we added all the meat juiced from the roasted pork. However we left out the garlic but used extra spring onions. We had chutney on the table and soy sauce but found the taste delicious and there was plenty of juice. We used pork fillet which is always lovely and tender so all in all we rated it 5* and would encourage everyone not to place too much emphasis on the reviews - everyone’s opinions differ! We will definitely order this again.

Helen - Apr 27, 2019

Too dry

Susan - Apr 27, 2019

The black bean sauce really overpowered the hoi sin and made it salty.

Katherine - Apr 27, 2019

Was Ok didnt wow, probably wouldnt bother again

Nina - Apr 26, 2019

Would’ve liked more sauce

Adam - Apr 25, 2019

Tasteless

Adam - Apr 25, 2019

Tasteless!!! Very disappointed.
