How Our Recipes Kits Work

- Szechuan Five Spice
- Hoi Sin Sauce
Your shopping list:
- Duck Breasts
- baby gem lettuce
- spring onions
- a cucumber
- pomegranate seeds
Our 20 minute recipe
Marinate the duck
Pre-heat the oven to 220C/fan 200C/gas 7.
Mix the CHINESE MARINADE and the SZECHUAN FIVE SPICE in a bowl.
Pat each duck breast dry with a paper towel and make 5-6 diagonal slashes in the skin, going just through to the flesh. Season them and place them flesh side down in the bowl of marinade and rub the mixture into the flesh side.
Pan-fry the duck
Place the duck breasts skin side down in a cold, oven-proof frying pan, without oil. Then turn the heat on low and let them cook for 8 mins, or until the fat has melted out and the skin is golden brown. Pour off the fat regularly into a heat-proof container.
Next, turn the duck breasts over to cook the flesh side for 1-2 mins.
Finish it in the oven
Put the pan into the oven (or put the duck breasts onto a baking tray) for 6-8 mins for medium-rare or 10-12 mins for medium-well, keeping them skin side up this time.
Prep the salad
Meanwhile, mix the lettuce, cucumber, spring onions and avocado (if using) together and then serve onto plates and top with the pomegranate seeds.
When the duck is cooked to your liking, remove from the oven and leave to rest on a board for a few mins. Then slice the duck and arrange it on the salads and drizzle with HOI SIN SAUCE.

The hob sin sauce is rather strong and too much. Otherwise lovely provided the duck is pink

Loved this. I initially thought duck was a difficult meat to cook but the recommended timings on this recipe were perfect. I’d like to see more recipes using duck, maybe something with rice and veg on the side.

Delicious but duck breasts are too expensive!
Joanne - Oct 14, 2019
Wouldn’t re-order but perhaps that’s because I didn’t like the duck!
Karen - Oct 10, 2019
Loved this, now a firm favourite. I must admit i did a rice dish on the side and used some of the hoisin in it.

Taste good but did not have anything with it. I ended up cooking chips to have with the duck. The salad is just an ordinary salad.
