How Our Recipes Kits Work
We provide flavour ingredients:
- Chicken Stock
- Cajun Seasoning
- Hot Pepper Sauce
Your shopping list:
- beef meatballs (approx 350g)
- tin chopped tomatoes
- green pepper (or red or yellow)
Our 20 minute recipe
Cook the rice
Boil 300ml water in a non-stick lidded saucepan then add the CHICKEN STOCK and mix well. Add the rice, bring it back to the boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for 10-12 mins.
Pan-fry the meatballs
Heat a little oil in a pan over medium-high heat, then fry the onion for 2 mins.
Add the meatballs, sprinkle the CAJUN SEASONING over them and fry until they've browned on all sides. (Drizzle a little more oil over them if looking dry).
Make the sauce
Add the pepper and fry for 2 mins.
Stir in the chopped tomatoes, and the HOT PEPPER SAUCE, then cook over a medium heat for 8-10 mins. If you'd prefer it a bit saucier, mix 50ml water into the sauce.
Taste the sauce and add 1 tsp of sugar, if desired.
Serve the rice with the meatballs and sauce on top.

I really enjoyed this one. Nothing like a Bolognese as someone else said. It was tasty and a bit spicy. I added a whole tin of tomatoes so plenty sauce and the rice had a nice flavour too. Would have again.
Holli - Jun 17, 2019
Found this really bland, like a naff pasta sauce. No other taste than tomato, couldn't taste any of the other spices and was not as hot as i thought it would be. Might work better as a pasta dish for me personally.

Fine but wouldn't order again. Not far different from a Bolognese.
Denise Turley - Jun 12, 2019
Spicy and tasty
Rachel - Jun 12, 2019
Really nice dish and one of the simplest to cook (also less washing up than some recipes) loved it!

We used a whole tin of chopped tomatoes with chilli & garlic to make a bit more sauce, but to keep that gentle kick of spice & flavour. This is a hit with the family. A&B

Not bad. Would have liked it a bit more spicy. Also pasatta might be better to use than tinned tomatoes. My husband liked it though.

I used venison meatballs. Very tender and with less fat content. Worked really well ????
Catherine - Jun 02, 2019
Disappointingly tasteless, just like a bland ratatouille with rice and meatballs. Not at all hot.
Sarah - Jun 02, 2019
Very hot so only used half the sauce

Absolutely loved this! Only ever had tomato based meatballs and spaghetti but this was a new spin on it and the rice was perfect. Will definitely have this again

The sauce and flavour of the rice was amazing. Really simple to cook and quick as well. Only small criticisms, could do with bigger proportion of rice to go with the size of the main and although it has a bit of warmth, I wouldn’t class the spice as ‘hot’
Sam - May 15, 2019
Not nearly as hot as I was hoping. Perhaps a bit sweet due to the tomato. Nice all the same.
Laura - May 15, 2019
It was nice and the flavours were lovely however I don’t think that I’ll be having it again as I’m not a big fan of meatballs. The peppers were under cooked but I think that that’s just my terrible cooking skills.
Carol - May 14, 2019
The easiest one to cook so far! I didn’t eat it myself but my husband & son loved it
Catherine - May 11, 2019
I have a 4 person box, but made this for myself one night and froze the rest. Works as well reheated as fresh. I look forward to making this again.
Vikki - May 10, 2019

Not hot, but has lovely flavour
Jacques - May 09, 2019
Not hot, but has lovely flavour
Lois - May 07, 2019
Nowhere near as spicy as the heat rating would suggest, but I still really enjoyed it. Next time would add some more spice.
Ellie - May 07, 2019
Super tasty and so quick and easy to make! Will definitely be ordering this one again!

That's a Spicy meat-a-BALL!' Very rich and tasty dish, I was cheeky and added some extra chilli flakes, as we like things a little extra hot ???? Also added a whole tin of chopped tomatoes, for a thicker and much more sauce.... I also kinda forgot to check the recipe card before chucking it all in.... ??????? my bad. But hey it worked out, by just letting it cook for a bit longer and thicken up ???? The rice was a bit salty to our taste from cooking in the chicken stock, and made it a bit too heavy for such a rich dish. I would personally pair this dish with either a plain rice, or cous cous. Served along with a fresh crisp garden salad, and some warm garlic bread to dip in that tasty sauce. Definitely a new favourite. 7/10

This was the best meatball sauce I have ever had, much better than the jars! Used pasta instead of rice and it was beautiful!
Jennifer - Apr 29, 2019

Used venison meatballs for this recipe and worked well. Not had meatballs with rice before but was tasty. Not as spicy as I expected. Quick and easy to make.
Katherine - Apr 27, 2019
Tasty but meatballs fell apart
Demi - Apr 26, 2019
Absolutely amazing! But I did spaghetti pasta instead of the rice!
dan - Apr 26, 2019
Easy to cook and enjoyed by the whole family
Gem - Apr 25, 2019
Bit boring. Napolina tinned tomatoes sweet enough that I didn’t need sugar. But had to add spice.
Carrie - Apr 25, 2019
It was tasty but not as hot as I was expecting
Holly - Apr 23, 2019
Better with pasta
Cassy - Apr 20, 2019
A nice filling meal, but the sauce felt like it was lacking something. The spice was there, and the flavours were lovely but it felt like it needed more. Rice is an unusual thing to have with meatballs for me too, but it does work.
