We're taking the sweet, sticky red onion relish of the west and spicing it up with cumin, coriander and ginger while keeping its classic balsamic glaze character. This is a great topping for our masala spiced lentil burger, which is seasoned with a North Indian spice blend with flecks of hot lime pickle. This wouldn’t be an Indian style burger without some Bombay potato wedges on the side!

We’ve sourced and blended all of the unique flavour ingredients to make our authentic Indian Spiced Lentil Burger . We bring these all together in a recipe kit, which consists of 3 flavour pots; a Masala Burger Seasoning pot, a Red Onion Chutney pot and a Bombay Potato Wedge Mix pot. Simply follow our recipe, adding a few items from your fridge, to cook this delicious Indian Spiced Lentil Burger in just 25 minutes.

How Our Recipes Kits Work

Your shopping list for 2 servings:

  • 250g new potatoes
  • 1 large red onion
  • 150g
  • 250g pack cooked puy lentils
  • 1 egg
  • 2 brioche buns (GF if needed)
  • plain flour (or ground almonds for GF)
  • 1 bag of salad (optional)

Our 25 minute recipe

  1. Get the wedges on 

    Heat the oven to 200C / fan 180C / gas 6. 

    Toss the potatoes with a little oil and the BOMBAY POTATO WEDGE MIX on a baking tray, then cook in the oven for 25 mins. 

  2. Make the burgers 

    Heat a little oil in a pan over medium-high heat and fry the chopped onion and mushrooms for 3 mins. 

    Sprinkle in the MASALA BURGER SEASONING and the puy lentils and fry for 2 mins. 

    Whisk an egg in a large bowl then add in 1 tbsp of flour/ground almonds. Add the lentil mixture and mash it a little bit then divide the mixture into quarters, then shape each quarter into a burger. Put them on a plate in the fridge to firm up a little.

  3. Meanwhile, start the relish

    Heat a little oil in a pan over medium-low heat and add the sliced red onion. Leave it to cook for 8 mins.

  4. Cook the burgers

    Heat up your pan from before over medium heat and fry the burgers for 3 mins on each side, until golden.

    Return to the onions, which should be soft and starting to caramelise. Add 1 tbsp water along with the RED ONION CHUTNEY and stir well for 2 mins.

  5. Serve!

    Make up the burgers with some onion relish on top and serve with your wedges and an optional side salad.

Ooh so nice! Was worried the burgers were a bit wet but they did firm up well in the pan! Also we used normal potatoes so obviously increase the time in the oven they need at least 40 so take into consideration with the other bits as timings were off slightly. Tip - do the relish in advance saves a job!

I used black eyed peas instead of lentils, but these were delicious! Could have used more spice for the potatoes, though.
